Uranus Poster With Process

Uranus Landscape Poster (More Detailed)

Simple Uranus Poster

When looking into other planet poster in my research I found that there was more detailed posters that have created a landscape of what they believe the planet would look like and I also found posters that were much more simple to look at as they displayed an image of the planet but around it was more simple, it wasn't a world landscape. I really liked both of the posters and how they both looked and I couldn't decide what one i liked best for my posters, this is why I decided to make two posters of my interpretation of Uranus. This is what i went on to do as you can see above I have showed you them.

First I will look into the more detailed landscape poster. This to me was a fail as i really do not like it I hate the overall look but I did still use some skills. The vision I had in mine when wanting to create this was a rock pool filled with diamonds. This idea came from my research. When I was looking up this planet I wanted to find out something that was interesting and would help me generate a idea, I found out that it is thought that because of the gases in the actomfer there could lead to diamond oceans on uranus, this gave me the idea to sell that as a marketing ploy to bring people to the planet. This is why on the cream coloured surface there are faded out diamonds as this is ment to represt the diamond pools. I decided that using low polly art to create the cave and pool was a good idea as it brings lots of three demential shapes into the poster but I believe this is what throws it off as to me as it doesn't look like its retro at all which is part of the task as well.

This screenshot shows my first pease of progression. I wont explain in full how I did this as its the same way I created my low polly art before which i explained all on my blog.

The next screenshot shows the rest of the low poly art finished as the pool is now done to. This was very time consuming but simple to do as i new what i was doing.

What I was doing here was creating a diamond that i would copy and paste into my working document. I made sure that all of the triangles that made up the diamond were filled with the black to white gradient. This created more dimension in the 2D shape.

In this screenshot you can see that i have mow placed my diamonds into the pool in my poster. I did this by copying and pasting the diamond and re-sizing them and finding a place to put them. Once I was happy with the placement I would change the transparency down to whatever I tough looked best, these usually ranged from 50% - 90%.

One of the last step was to add text and the tital. I didn't really like this, I think that I could of come up with a better font if I looked for longer. The text in black is ment to be possessive text meaning that its possessing the user to go to this destination.

The last step was to put my logo that i created for this company to go into the poster, I chose to place this into the top right corner as if i put it in the bottom corners it would of covered up the diamonds.

Overall, I have come to the conclusion that I didn't like the way this came out as the text didn't really work in my opinion and the low poly base didn't work for me as i cant feel the retro vibe that is needed for this project.

The first step in making the simple version of the uranus poster is by placing down the texture bored that helps bring a more retro vibe. I also used this in my pluto poster when I was doing research. This was my first layer which and I set the transparency to 30% so it wouldn't be as prominent.

What I did next was create another new layer which would become my bace. This was for my poster to stand out on. I created this by selecting the rectangular tool and creating a shape that left a border showing the previous layer. I colorer this a light pail blue as the planet is blue so I wanted the bace to be according. Then I locked the layer.

Now that the bace was done I went on to create a image to show of my diamond ocean, this was the idea I still wanted to use as a marketing ploy but wanted to display it better so I started to create a pool from a birds eyes view. What I did to star to create the pool was open up another layer and selected the ellipses tool and started creating circle after circle making a big blob like you can see in the screenshot to the right. When I was happy with the shape of the blob I would select all and select the pathfinder tab and click on the divide button, what this dose is make the whole area you selected one object when you click on it. When I click on the blob now it selects all of the circles. Once I made three different sized shapes and made them all into one shape I messed around with the colure till it looked like a pool colure, but remembering that what ever colour you chose it will be lighten up when you set the transparency down. I set all the blobs to different transparencies to create diminution when they would be layered. All that was left to do was start to place the pool shaped blobs on top of each other so that they could create a pool like I wanted. This was a whole new layer.

What I new I wanted to do next was add the diamonds to the pool, but I didn't want to use the black and white diamond I use in the last poster as they were to harsh when contrasting on top of the colour of the pool, so I created another diamond with my own white to light blue gradient so it still had dimension but would blend into the pool which is more realistic.

In this next step I copied and pasted (command C, command V) my blue diamond into my poster document. I made sure that they were pasted onto a new layer that was just for the diamonds. When the diamonds were pasted into this document I would re-sized them holding down shift so they didn't go out of shape as well as changing the transparency of them verifying from 90% to even being 50% this created a more natural look of them at different levels of the pool/ocean. Once I was happy with the look of the diamonds as I didn't want to overcrowd the image with them I locked the layer and moved onto the next task.

After creating a new layer for the larger piece of text I selected the type tool, I selected the standard setting as I wanted to type on a state line. I typed out "enjoy the relaxing pools whilst reaping the benefits" this is a statement that I thought would engage spa loving customers who would be interested in looking into the benefits that diamond infused water could have. This holiday designation would be for a more relaxing holiday and that is why Im selling it that way. The front I went with was called OCR A Std this font is what i was looking for as it has a simple feel which works for the future as well as links to a retro feel as it resembles type writing styles. In this screenshot the text colour is orange but I later change it to a black.

Then I went on to adding the planet I was advertising on this poster which was uranus. I didn't create a new picture for this as I already had made it on my joint travel poster which I made as a over all destination poster to show where the company travels to. This meant that I created another new layer and copied and pasted my planet in from my other saved document. Once again I used the shift key to re-size the planet as well as slightly rotating it till I felt happy with the way it looked. As I was looking at it I though it look a bit plane so I added in some curved lines on the left side of the planet, I did this with the arc tool when I was happy with that I finally locked this layer and though about what was left to do.

This next step wasn't very hard as I new I had to add in a title that showed of what this poster was advertising (uranus). I added in a new layer as well as selecting the same type tool that I used for the longer box of text. This wasn't as long of a process as I new exactly what I needed to write as well as the font to use as I was using the same as the other text on the poster and wanted the poster to be simultaneous. I didn't want to use a black tone for this title as I wanted it to stand out and catch the users eye, this is why I went with a orange as it is a contrasting colour of the background colour blue. I also made the stroke panel bigger with it being an eight which let me create a slightly darker tone of orange which made the name stand out even more which I really like and decided to keep for the rest of my posters to they all feel linked.

All that was left to do then was placing in the logo of the company. I quickly created the last layer for this and pasted in my logo that I created earlier. I used this one as it was my personal favourite. I sized it down and place it into the left bottom corner and then went on to make all the layer locked so that nothing could be displaced. This was then the last step in making this poster and i saved and exported this file into a jpeg file.

Overall, I think that this poster is way more fitting for my style as well as fitting to the retro space feel, like I said this is more my style as I love simplicity and that is what I am getting from this design as its not to in your face but is still applying to look at. I will be creating the rest of my posters like this with the same style but with themes more fitting to them destinations.
